Renter Beware! Rented a home from owner in 2016 for 2017. Lease for 2017, had first right for current renter to be able to rent for following year. Owner signed up with Wagner who found a renter for 2018 without even offering place to current renter. Wagner kept saying it was owners right but Wagner should have reviewed lease terms before pulling rug out from under current renters. Wagner (Bonnie) made no effort to check out house prior to rental. Multiple areas in disrepair. House shows lovely but not even a platter to serve food. Pool looks nice but is colder than the Gulf; has a heater but it is broken and is dirty. Called Wagner to report and informed handyman is out sick and was told I should try to figure it out! Not a single pool toy, float, life ring, nothing. Pool area is unsafe, stonework is caving in, definitely a tripping hazard. Eating area outside but no table cloth, placemats, nada! Dining area has seating for 10 but there are only 6 place settings of dishes. However, there are 12 wine glasses. No instructions on how to lock door, who would think you have to pull handle up to turn deadbolt. Tells you to clean dryer vent after each use, but no wastebasket except in the kitchen and bath. Two bathroom's, one hairdryer. No sharp knives, only one clock for 3 bedrooms. Toaster oven from resale shop doesn't toast, only burns or does nothing. Not a single small appliance, mixer, blender etc. Other realtors on island let renters know what you need to bring items or those that are not supplied. Never dreamed that I had to furnish an entire kitchen. Great house for entertaining, wine bar and lots of wine glasses but not a single bowl for even putting out chips. Prior renter went to dollar store and supplied 2 bowls. Great oven but no pans, cookie sheets but there is a pizza stone but no pan. Rental agent did and said nothing, probably didn't even check. No real front walkway, so while it is a ranch, don't think that it is easily accessible if you have any disabilities. Walking into the house is a major challenge; the crushed shells are lovely but try to walk on them, avoid the roots and make your way to the front door with a suitcase is virtually impossible. Even stepping stones would have helped! While distressed that the option for next year was pulled out from under me, Wagner should have inspected the house before they took it on as a rental to promote. That inspection would have indicated all the problems and things that needed to be fixed before occupancy. From a renter's perspective, they (Wagner) does nothing. From an owners perspective, it is a lovely home but oh boy, you need to get with the program. Renters on the island expect at least the basics and the real estate agent has the responsibility to tell owners what they need to do to get return rentals. Maybe Wagner feels as if they can keep getting new rentals so it doesn't matter. Good luck on that one!
